DC Water

DC Water — For Teachers

DC Water's teacher hub bundles K-12 lesson guides on watersheds and conservation with hands-on outreach such as the Enviroscape watershed model and a math-based "Game of Pipes" maze. High schoolers can go further through Engineering Tomorrow workshops held at the Blue Plains treatment plant, which put students inside a working facility.

What you will find there

  • A printable water-waste versus water-wise sorting activity and a comic-strip activity for elementary grades
  • "Game of Pipes," a middle school math activity in which students move through a maze of pipes
  • Enviroscape watershed model demonstrations for grades 3 through 12
  • Engineering Tomorrow workshops for grades 9-12 at the Blue Plains treatment plant
  • Classroom posters, videos, and links to partner programs such as EarthEcho

Our take

The resources extend into math and literacy as well as science, and the program adds engineering career exposure at a working treatment plant. Content and in-person outreach are concentrated in the DC metro area, so field trips and speaker visits are not practical for schools farther away.
