EarthEcho Water Challenge
The EarthEcho Water Challenge is a global citizen-science program that has students test local water for turbidity, temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen with low-cost kits, then upload their results to a shared worldwide database. Running from March 22 to December each year, it turns a water-quality unit into a contribution to a real international dataset rather than a one-off classroom experiment.

What you will find there
- A three-step Test, Share, Protect framework for student water monitoring
- A global results database at monitorwater.org that students' data feeds directly into
- Teacher guidance and data sheets for testing turbidity, temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen
- An Ambassadors youth-leadership track for students who want to extend the work
Our take
Contributing real data to a global database gives students authentic scientific practice, and the test kit is low-cost, though you will need to buy or source one separately to run the field portion.
