Model My Watershed
Model My Watershed lets students run the same professional-grade stormwater and land-use models that working hydrologists use, applied to real data for any address in the lower 48 states. Students can compare how a proposed development or a conservation project would change runoff and water quality in their own neighborhood.
What you will find there
- Real land-use and soil data for any location in the lower 48 states, pulled automatically by address
- A stormwater runoff and water-quality model students can run on that real data
- A scenario comparison tool for testing conservation versus development changes to the same watershed
- A standalone Runoff Simulation tool isolating how land use and soil type affect infiltration versus runoff
- NGSS-aligned curricula and teacher guides at wikiwatershed.org/curricula/
Our take
The tool gives classrooms free access to professional-grade water models, and running it on a student's own neighborhood connects the analysis to a familiar place. It takes real setup time to learn the interface well enough to teach it confidently.
