U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize
The Stockholm Junior Water Prize is an international water-research competition for high school students, run in the US by WEF since 1997 as a feeder into the international final held each August at World Water Week in Stockholm. Students aged 15 and up submit an original water-related research project, competing through regional and state rounds before a national winner is chosen.

What you will find there
- Eligibility for students in grades 9-12 who are at least 15 by August 1 of the competition year
- A tiered competition structure: regional rounds in winter, state competitions in spring, and a national round in May
- A $10,000 cash prize, a crystal trophy, and a trip to represent the US at World Water Week in Stockholm for the national winner
- The option for teams of two students to submit a joint research project
Our take
This is the natural capstone for an ambitious student's water-related science fair project, and the cash prize and international trip are real incentives; it demands months of independent research, so it fits a mentored elective or science-fair track rather than a single class unit.
