TeachEngineering — Water Topic Hub

TeachEngineering's water hub organizes dozens of free, NGSS-aligned engineering lessons and multi-week units by grade band, from water-filtration projects in grades 3-5 through wastewater-treatment models and hydro-turbine design in grades 9-12. Every entry follows the same complete format, with a materials list, timed procedure, and assessment, which makes it easy to drop straight into a class period.

What you will find there

  • 24-plus grades 3-5 activities, including the Water Filtration Project and water-cycle lessons
  • 30-plus grades 6-8 lessons on groundwater flow, water-quality monitoring, algae blooms, and floodplain modeling
  • 20-plus grades 9-12 activities on wastewater treatment, surface tension, water-quality analysis, and hydro-turbine design
  • Each lesson includes standards tags, a materials list, timed procedure, and assessment questions
  • An expandable standards display showing full NGSS performance-expectation text alongside the practice, core idea, and crosscutting concept it draws on

Our take

This is a useful source for design-build-test water engineering challenges, with NGSS alignment shown in full text rather than as a code alone; grades K-2 are marked "coming soon" with no current offerings, so younger classes will need a different source.
