American Water Works Association & Water Environment Federation
Work for Water
Work for Water is a career-exploration site built jointly by the American Water Works Association and the Water Environment Federation, aimed at showing students and job seekers how to enter the industry, including through roles that begin with on-the-job training and certification. A three-minute quiz matches a student's interests to one of ten water-sector roles, and a region-specific "Get Started" guide links out to real certification and training programs.
What you will find there
- A three-minute career-match quiz pointing students toward one of ten water-sector roles
- Profiles of treatment operators, engineers, electricians and mechanics, and laboratory technicians
- Region-specific Get Started guides for the USA, Canada, and Tribal regions with certification and scholarship links
- Outreach messaging on job security, pay, benefits, and training opportunities
Our take
It is a national site built specifically to introduce students to water-sector careers, which matters given how much of the workforce is nearing retirement, though the profiles read as recruitment copy rather than classroom-ready lesson plans.
