W.2.1 Opinion writing

Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.

Why water teaches this standard well

Second graders connect an opinion to supporting reasons with linking words, arguing for choices such as fixing a dripping faucet or keeping a class water-saving pledge. Conservation questions give students reasons they can observe and explain rather than merely feel.

Materials tagged with this code are written to the full standard , and each carries a written note explaining the alignment. See how we review materials.
