3.MD.B.4 Make a line plot with fractional units

Generate measurement data by measuring lengths using rulers marked with halves and fourths of an inch. Show the data by making a line plot, where the horizontal scale is marked off in appropriate units - whole numbers, halves, or quarters.

Why water teaches this standard well

Students measure a week of rainfall to the nearest quarter inch using a rain gauge marked in fourths, then plot every reading on a line plot to see the range of a week's storms. Reading a ruler in fractional units here matches the fractional gradations on a real rain gauge.

Materials tagged with this code are written to the full standard , and each carries a written note explaining the alignment. See how we review materials.
