W.5.1 Opinion writing

Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information.

Why water teaches this standard well

Fifth graders order their reasons logically and support them with facts on questions such as whether the community should limit lawn watering during dry summers. Conservation debates give writers factual support to organize and an audience that genuinely disagrees.

Materials tagged with this code are written to the full standard , and each carries a written note explaining the alignment. See how we review materials.
