Why water teaches this standard well
Students count out loud as a bucket fills one cup at a time, or count drops from a dripping faucet into the tens and ones they will use all year. Counting to 100 by tens previews the round numbers - 10, 20, 100 gallons - that show up on every water bill and rain gauge chart.
